Committees are where the day-to-day work of our Union happens.
Each committee brings together tenant volunteers from across the city to advance campaigns, build strategy, and take action. Most committees meet monthly and are open to registered union members who want to get involved more deeply in the work.
Representative Council (Rep Council)
The Rep Council is the democratic decision-making body of the union.
It is made up of representatives from Tenant Associations across the city. Each Tenant Association can nominate 1–2 representatives to bring forward their building’s concerns, priorities, and perspectives.
Together, the Rep Council:
Votes on key decisions about union strategy
Shapes our collective demands and campaigns
Ensures that leadership reflects the voices of tenants across our membership.
Rep Council is how we practice collective decision-making at scale—grounded in the experiences of tenants and accountable to the communities we organize in.
Basebuilding Committee
The Basebuilding Committee builds and strengthens the foundation of the union by growing membership and developing local chapters. This includes supporting organizing on the ground, running trainings and workshops, and helping expand our collective power across neighborhoods.
Black, Caribbean, and Latine Committee
The Black, Caribbean and Latine Committee serves as a hub where Black, Caribbean, and Latine tenants can come together to build community and organize. This space centers our perspectives, knowledge, and experiences, and focuses on issues that directly impact our communities while strengthening the union as a multicultural and multilingual organization.
City-Wide Coordinating Committee
The Citywide Coordinating Committee brings together appointed representatives from each committee, local chapter, and rep council.
This is where coordination happens across the union, ensuring our work is strategic and aligned with our collective goals and values.
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee supports the financial health of the union, including budgeting, fundraising, and resource allocation to sustain and grow our work.
Language Justice Committee
The revolution will be multilingual, and the Language Justice Committee focuses on the intersection of language and collective power. It organizes interpretation for live events, coordinates translation of materials, and works to ensure language accessibility across all aspects of our organizing, from meetings to canvassing, so more tenants can fully participate.
Media Committee
The Media Committee manages external communications, including social media and press. The committee also develops messaging and designs materials that support organizing efforts across the union.
Policy and Research Committee
The Research and Data Committee analyzes, and uses research to support our basebuilding, campaigns and demands. This includes tracking legislation, understanding key decision-makers and institutions, and building knowledge that strengthens our organizing and advocacy.
Internal Communications Committee
The internal communications committee is responsible for managing internal communications including emails to UPT members, monthly calendars and the UPT newsletter.
